What began as a summer project turned into a realisation for me. ‘Everybody Loves the Sunshine’ was inspired by the song of the same name. The atmosphere of the song is projected into the music video; a delirious feeling of repetition and time cycling through itself, never changing or evolving. The song repeats over and over, however seems to function as though it truly is so long as shown in the video clip.
The idea was how an outsider would perceive Cyprus, a beautiful island that most travel to for summer holidays with the promise of nine months of the year of sun, crystal-clear waters and simmering heat.
The point however was that although the island does possess this beauty and is perhaps the most well-known aspect about it, there is a wish for there to be an acknowledgement of ‘the more’, by tourists, foreigners and Cypriot people themselves. The ‘more’ is simply the whole picture of Cyprus, scenery amongst a turbulent history and post-war division
Essentially everybody loves the sunshine, but very rarely do they know what history lies behind the blinding sun.
