This project relates to the hydrocarbon situation in Cyprus. A dispute over territory and resources brings about again the question of the relations between Cyprus, Greece and Turkey.
The lino-prints produced were created by taking symbolic crests and elements from flags that have colonised Cyprus throughout its history. This speaks on the sovereignty of Cyprus and brings to light the endless list of empire's and country's that have controlled, ruled and occupied Cyprus throughout time, as well as the influence they have had in shaping our history and current situation today.
The bathtub resembles the personal touch involved in-between the lines of all the (un-)diplomatic proceedings. The oil permeates the fabric, falls and travels through the floor. Oil is a substance that suffocates, sticks and slimes. The way you cannot escape oil residue is linked to how certain politics can never separate themselves from the people of Cyprus, the political becomes personal as it constantly effects the lives and paths of the Cypriot people.
